Kazan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping tomorrow, October 23, in Russia’s Kazan on the sidelines of 16th BRICS Summit. The development was confirmed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday night.
“I can confirm that there will be a bilateral meeting held between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping tomorrow on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit,” Misri said.
Notably, it will be the first bilateral talks between two leader after India and China reached an agreement on patrolling and disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh and also after the 2020 Galwan clash.
On Monday, Misri announced that India and China reached on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, in a major breakthrough in ending the over four-year-long military standoff between the two armies. Earlier in the day, China also confirmed reaching the agreement with India.
The BRICS Summit is set to take place in Kazan under Russia’s chairmanship on October 22-23. Leaders of BRICS nation, including PM Modi and Jinping, are in Kazan for the summit.
The Summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” will provide an important platform for leaders to discuss key global issues,” according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Earlier in the day, PM Mod held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the summit.
During his meeting with Putin, PM Modi offered cooperation towards in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict in a peaceful manner. The Prime Minister said that Russia-Ukraine conflict should be resolved in a peaceful manner. Modi held bilateral talks with Putin hours after arriving in this central Russian city to attend the 16th BRICS summit.
Meanwhile, it was PM Modi’s first meeting with Pezeshkian after he took over as President of Iran in July this year.
